As someone who lives in Delhi, one of the hottest cities, an AC is something I something I need to get through the summer.

Here is an overview of the top 5 air conditioners that you can buy in India:

If you’re lucky, you live in a state where it doesn’t get that hot. But in most Indian states in the summer, the temperature goes well above 30°C, and even 40°. In those cases, you need an AC in the home. If you live in a Northern state, then the summer temperature can get particularly high.

There are two kinds of ACs – split AC and window AC. Read more about their differences at the end of this page. But the important thing you need to know is that split ACs are better and more efficient. They’re also the more popular and in-demand choice.

The capacity of an AC refers to the amount of air that it can cool in one day. It’s measured in tons. For example, a 1-ton AC can cool about 1000 kg of air in 24 hours. 1.5 ton ACs have the ideal capacity; it’s not too high or low.

Here are the ten best ACs to buy in India (split ACs and 1.5 ton):

3) The mechanisms of this air-conditioner are advanced and sophisticated.

4) By default, it will run on auto mode where it judges the atmosphere and surrounding temperature. Then it selects its cooling based on the surrounding environment.

5) It’s accurate too; usually, you don’t have to make additional changes.

What The Energy Ratings Mean

When an air conditioner is listed as 3-star or 5-star, this refers to the energy efficiency, or how much power it consumes. This is a useful way to compare the energy consumption of different products. It’s represented in stars.

Energy ratings are between 1 and 10 stars. A 5-star AC is more efficient than a 3-star AC. Click here to learn more about how to read energy labels and what they mean.

Split AC vs. Window AC

Split ACs and window ACs are very different. Here are the main advantages and disadvantages of each:

Split AC

A split AC has two units: an indoor and an outdoor unit. The two units are connected by some sort of tubing, usually copper tubing. They require installation.

Split ACs are better because they make less noise and are more energy efficient. They make almost no noise when running, compared to window ACs.

The disadvantages they have are that they’re slightly more expensive than window ACs, and they also require more work to set up.

Window AC

A window AC only has one unit. It’s installed in the place of a window, either on ceiling level or on a lower level. It contains all of the parts: compressors, motors, pipes, and heat exchangers.

Window ACs are more noisy, which is a big disadvantage. They also take up more space and don’t look as good as split ACs. The only advantage they have is that they’re easier to install and service.

They also are slightly cheaper than split ACs, but not by a lot. Click here for the 10 best window ACs to buy in India.
